Camera traps are an integral component of Marataba’s remote monitoring capacity. Camera trap technology not only assists in the collection of critical data for wildlife population monitoring, which allows us to determine home range sizes, distributions and population densities, but also feeds into our law enforcement and security efforts. Our high-tech camera system makes use of artificial intelligence to determine and alert us to threats, allowing reaction teams to react swiftly.

Get involved:

Help set up a camera trap and take a behind the scenes look at what happens in the Park during the day and night. Selecting an appropriate site for the placement of the camera trap is an informative and fun experience for all ages and includes the identification of animal tracks and behavioural signs, which all need to be considered when placing a trap. Analysing the footage and images afterwards is just as much part of the fun too!
